History of the Silentnight Mattress

Silentnight were founded in 1946 by Tom and Joan Clarke, in the Yorkshire town of Skipton, and operating under the name 'Clarke's Mattresses Limited'. After a successful start, they relocated to a larger premises in Barnoldswick, Lancashire and changed the company name to Silentnight in 1951. The 1980s saw Silentnight rise to become the UK's largest bed brand; introducing the 'Ultimate Spring System' (now known as Miracoil), along with the Hippo and Duck company mascots. From here, the company has continued it's success, combining the latest technologies (Mirapocket Spings, Getlex etc) with savvy marketing and promotion.

What is a Miracoil Mattress?

These products include Silentight's patented Miracoil spring systems, which are made from a 'continuous coil' which is linked vertically. This reduces roll together, giving couples the best opportunity for undisturbed sleep, even if there is a notable size or weight difference between them. This is illustrated by the Hippo & Duck mascots; a mainstay of Silentnight's branding since the 1980s.

What are Mirapocket Springs

Silentnight's take on pocket springs; each metal spring is separate from the next, individually wrapped in their own fabric sleeve. 2 Man Delivery to Room of Choice

We use home delivery specialists Panther Logistics to fulfil our Silentnight mattress orders. You can choose a specific date at the checkout, knowing that when the time comes, you'll be contacted with an ETA. You can also have your old mattress taken away and recycled for a small fee.
