Pocket Sprung Mattresses

Pocket Sprung Mattresses

Pocket Sprung Mattresses contain traditional metal springs, but unlike with open coil (Bonnell sprung) mattresses, they aren't held together by a rigid wire framework. Each spring is separately held in its own fabric sleeve and therefore only depresses in accordance with the weight placed directly on it. This makes pocket sprung mattresses incredibly supportive; able to react to your shape and sleeping position. These products all include Free Delivery.

Pocket Sprung Mattress Consumer Guide

What are the benefits of Pocket Sprung Mattresses?

Due to the individual nature of each pocket spring, the surface of the mattress is actually able to follow the shape of your body as you lie on it. By maximising the contact between the sleeping surface and your body, this makes these mattresses far more supportive than a cheaper open coil sprung mattress, offering pressure relief to heavier parts of the body and extra support to the hips and shoulders. There is an additional benefit for when two people share the bed, as the movements of one person are far less likely to disturb the other person as they sleep. Pocket sprung mattresses prevent 'roll together' too.

What determines the overall price?

There are various specifications of pocket sprung mattress available on this page. As the spring count increases, this means that the benefits are amplified and the mattress can adjust to your sleeping position with even greater accuracy. Many pocket sprung mattresses contain additional materials too, which work in harmony with the support system to provide a wonderful sense of comfort as well as support. Some pocket spring mattresses also contain natural fillings, memory foam, and even latex. Others are 'encapsulated', meaning there is a flexible yet durable foam wall which runs around the mattress border and allows the mattress to keep its shape for far longer.

Pocket Sprung Mattress Size Options:

Mattresses with Pocket Springs are available in various different sizes, to suit your requirements. Single pocket spring mattresses are ideal for children and teenagers. You may consider using a pair of them for a bunk bed, or maybe a guest bed - ideal for if you will have people staying over. In the single size these mattresses are made to 3'0" x 6'3" (or 90cm x 190cm in metric).

A Double pocket spring mattress is great for a single person, but there are additional benefits if the bed is shared. Because of the way in which the springs are individually responsive, the effects of movement by one person during sleep, is absorbed in a way which prevents their partner from being disturbed. Double mattresses measure at 4'6" x 6'3" (or 135cm x 190cm).

King Size pocket spring mattresses are the way to go if you have the space for a little bit more luxury. All the benefits of a double mattress are present, with the added benefit of a bit more space to both the width and the length. King size measures in at 5'0" in width and 6'6" in length (150cm x 200cm).

A pocket spring mattress in Super King represents the ultimate in luxury, especially if paired with a stylish bed frame. It is the equivalent in width to two single mattresses and truly allows each person to spread out across the bed as they sleep. Traditional imperial measurements come to 6'0" x 6'6", with metric coming to 180cm x 200cm.

Types of Pocket Sprung Mattress

Traditional Pocket Sprung Mattresses

These mattresses tend to be 'tufted', which is a process which produces an almost 'buttoned' look across the top panel of the mattress. At each one of these points there is a very thick thread which join the top panel to the bottom panel of the mattress, helping to hold all of the springs and fillings in place. Traditional mattresses are filled with either man-made polyester, natural fillings such as wool & silk (or a combination of both).

Pocket Sprung Memory Foam Mattress

These mattresses combine the benefits of both technologies within the same product. The pocket springs are at the mattress core, supporting your frame and keeping your spine correctly aligned. Memory foam usually exists as a layer on top of this ranging from 1 to 3 inches in depth. It's not always the case, but pocket spring memory foam mattresses often forgo the tufting process and tend to have a flatter appearance across the top. They're often manufactured as 'non-turn' mattresses too. Memory foam works in tandem with the spring system, keeping your muscles nicely supported and the soft nature of the foam prevents pressure points and promotes healthy blood circulation.

Rolled Pocket Spring Mattress

Where traditional sprung mattresses feature a 'rod edge wire' which runs around the spring system and helps keep the mattress in shape, many modern pocket sprung mattresses have other ways of achieving this and so lack the edge wire completely. One of the benefits is that this allows the mattresses to be rolled for quicker and easier shipping. For customers this means the mattress can be stored for a period of time before use, or simply collected from a store and put in the boot of their car.

Encapsulated Pocket Springs

This is a relatively new innovation which has some fantastic benefits associated with it. Masy people don't realise that when they sit on the edge of the bed when putting on their shoes and socks, they're actually damaging the rod edge wire in their sprung mattress over time, causing it to lose its shape. Encapsulated mattresses actually have a wall or border which runs along the edges of the mattress which is made from foam. This gives the mattress a lot of flexibility while enabling it to always spring back into shape. Mattresses with this technology are a lot more durable and keep their shape for far longer.
